So, by now you have hopefully read part one and part two of our current blog series, and you are intrigued and want to know more about how we can document YOUR everyday extraordinary!
Right?
Right!
After completing our own “Day in the Life” photos, we realized what a precious gift this would be to other families as well. As a lifelong journal keeper and scrapbooker, I didn’t hesitate to use these images to create a beautiful photo album of that day, and with that we knew we had come upon something really, really special.
So, we are extending these special documentary sessions out to our clients as well in order to capture your beautiful, extraordinary lives.
Let’s address some of the common questions that you might be thinking first:
What the heck do WE DO?
Well, mostly, we just want you to be yourselves! How easy is that? With the full day and half day experience, there is typically enough going on that you don’t have to force it too much – your everyday lives are varied enough to include different activities and emotions. We do recommend choosing one or two activities to engage in together as a family (watching TV isn’t terribly interesting beyond a cartoon or so…), but we want you to choose activities that are normal for you to do as a family. For example, we live very close to Rattlesnake Lake and we often go up as a family to walk, throw rocks into the water, etc. That is an activity we do together as a family that I love to document. I will be sharing more ideas next week, but ultimately, we want you to think about the things that you do that bring you and your family joy – those are the things worth documenting! But, don’t stress about the tempter tantrums, the messes and the “real life” stuff, because that is all stuff worth remembering too!
What the heck do YOU DO?
Dan and I will both be observing and photographing the details of your life, your interactions and your activities. Don’t worry, we won’t just awkwardly and quietly stay in the corner, we will interact and have fun with you too – and you will be surprise at how quickly you forget that we are taking photos! It will feel more like we are just hanging out for a little while! What we won’t do is stop any mischief. If junior is drawing on the wall, we are going to photograph it, not stop it! And unless you request otherwise, we will also take some time to get a few more traditional family portraits in as well, because we know those have a special place in our memories too.
I know you said it’s OK to be imperfect….but, really? Shouldn’t I clean the house and dress us all up?
I understand, so ultimately this is up to you. I like to think of it this way – on any given day my house is potentially a huge disaster, or I miraculously find time to put away all the toys in the living room and do the dishes. Don’t go out of your way to make the toilet sparkle, but if you feel more comfortable getting your house to your level of “normal” clean – do it. Don’t go out of your way to get the kids all dressed up, they will hate you for it anyhow. Looking cute is great….but so can allowing them to dress themselves in tutu’s and rubber boots. In the end, it is about what YOU want to remember and what you want THEM to remember too!
